WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO MEET AshleyDawn Sheppard, MS, LMFT-S, LPC-S Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Supervisor, Texas License #201888 Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Texas License #69395 Accepting Clients Yes Meeting Options Online Only Practices In Texas TMT Designation Trauma Model Therapy Level 1 Clinician Trauma Model Therapy Level 2 Clinician Clinical Bio I have been a therapist for 15 years, and my path to this work was anything but a straight line. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Journalism from Baylor University and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University - Central Texas. My curiosity about how the world works even led me to earn over 36 credit hours in general laboratory sciences—a hobby that deeply informs my understanding of the biological side of mental health. My clinical experience is broad. I have worked with almost every diagnosis across the lifespan—children, teens, adults, and couples. I’ve practiced in many settings: correctional facilities, hospitals, advocacy centers, domestic violence shelters, and as part of community emergency response teams collaborating with first responders. Today, I serve as the Medical Services Administrator of Get Out Of Your Head Therapy, where I work in tandem with Dr. Ross to manage psychiatric services. I am the Chief Learning Officer of Get Into Your Head Training, and as part of that work, I seek to connect mental health service providers with tangible, applicable trainings from other clinicians who are doing incredible things in clinical rooms across the world. As the Director of Education for Trauma Model Therapy, I oversee services and programs that contribute to the general public having access to specilaists that can competently treat complex trauma and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). I am trained in a wide array of evidence-based models. I don’t just know these models; I blend them to fit the specific needs of the person sitting across from me. What I Really Want You to Know Too many people spend years in therapy without experiencing significant change. I’m not okay with that. If you work with me, you should know that I do things differently. While the therapeutic relationship is incredibly powerful, I am not here to be your "professional friend." I am here to be your expert guide. I operate with a candid, caring style that will gently push you to challenge yourself. Because I believe in the power of focused, deep work, I only commit to being your therapist for a single year (365 days). We will set clear goals and meet at least once per week. This isn't the right space for venting or decompressing about daily stressors; it’s for people who have the bandwidth to dive into the deep end and do the introspective work required between sessions. Think of it this way: We dive into the deepest part of the ocean together. I teach you how to confidently swim back to shore. We acclimate to your newfound insights, I say goodbye, and you keep walking down that beautiful beach at sunset—knowing you’re going to be alright. How I Weave Trauma Model Therapy Into My Practice As the Director of Education for Trauma Model Therapy (TMT), I work directly with Dr. Colin Ross to train other clinicians in this framework. Naturally, TMT is the foundational mindset of everything I do. In my practice, I weave TMT into the work by helping you discover the logic of your survival. We look back at your history not to dwell on the past, but to understand how your current struggles—whether they be dissociation, addiction, or self-sabotage—were once brilliant solutions to a problem of powerlessness. By using the TMT framework, we work to: restore your Internal Locus of Control, moving you from feeling like a victim of your symptoms to the empowered leader of your own life. dismantle your chronic shame. blend TMT with tools like EMDR to ensure that your higher-thinking, logical brain and your survival, protective brain are finally speaking the same language. look back with intention and purpose so that you can finally heal and move forward as a whole person. • TMT is for Civil Rights Advocates | TMT

< Back Previous Next TMT IS FOR Civil Rights Advocates Continue to thrive as you fight for justice. Sustained systemic change requires sustainable advocates. By understanding the neurobiological logic of your trauma responses, you can honor your defensive strategies, heal from chronic stress, and transition from a state of raw survival into long-term, resilient thriving. The Cost of the Front Line: Relational Trauma in Civil Rights Advocacy Civil rights advocates, activists, and community organizers operate under conditions of systemic and relational stress. Fighting for justice means confronting institutional oppression, systemic gaslighting, and hostility. Over time, this constant exposure to societal injustice can result in complex trauma. When your daily work involves bearing witness to historical and ongoing systemic violence, your nervous system can become stuck in a state of high alarm. In this space, burnout is not a personal failure—it is a physiological response to an unsustainable environment. How Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) Relates to Advocacy Trauma Model Therapy provides a clear framework that directly aligns with the lived experiences of advocates: Symptoms as Systemic Survival Strategies: TMT does not pathologize your responses. Hypervigilance, emotional exhaustion, or profound anger are not signs of a broken brain; they are functional adaptations developed to help you survive and resist hostile environments. The Locus of Control Shift: Advocates often carry a heavy burden of self-blame, feeling personally responsible for dismantling massive, centuries-old systems of oppression. TMT helps untangle this internal conflict, allowing you to recognize what is truly within your control while releasing the toxic shame of systemic limitations. De-escalating the Biological Alarm: Continuous exposure to injustice keeps the autonomic nervous system flooded with stress hormones. TMT offers objective grounding and stabilization tools to help you safely regulate your body, ensuring that your activism is sustained by conscious choice rather than chronic survival drive. Navigating Burnout and Desensitization: When emotional pain becomes intolerable, the mind may adapt through dissociation, numbness, or compulsive behaviors to manage the stress. TMT addresses these behaviors with compassion and curiosity, treating them as attempts to self-soothe a depleted system. It's more than just a model. It's a mindset. When you choose a Trauma Model Therapy Certified Clinician, you are engaging with a clinician who is not only trained in Trauma Model Therapy, but who goes one step further and commits to utilize other evidence-based approaches for trauma, stay current and relevant on trauma research, and have the humility to know when you need a different form of care. Clinicians have the competency to treat even the most complex trauma cases and understand that multiple models are necessary to give you the best outcomes. You deserve not to be in therapy forever. How many hours and how many dollars have you spent on your mental health healing process? Lasting change and healing isn’t an overnight process, but you also deserve to receive effective, evidence-based treatment. Learn More About How TMT Can Help You>>

Find a certified trauma and dissociation specialist. Search our global provider directory to connect with a trusted Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) clinician. Ross, MD Medical Doctor, Texas License #J0652 Accepting Clients Yes Meeting Options Online Only Practices In Texas TMT Designation Trauma Model Therapy Level 1 Clinician Trauma Model Therapy Level 2 Clinician Clinical Bio I am a psychiatrist who obtained my medical degree from the University of Alberta in 1981 and completed my specialist training in psychiatry at the University of Manitoba in 1985. I'm also a researcher, author, and lecturer, and past President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD). In 2018, I was honored to receive the ISSTD Lifetime Achievement Award. I am a prolific contributor to the field, having authored 38 books and over 290 professional papers. Beyond my clinical and academic work, I have consulted for the television industry and founded The Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma and Manitou Communications. I specialize in the most complex presentations of mental health, including all forms of dissociation, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Personality Disorders, and Complex Trauma (C-PTSD). What I Really Want You to Know I am a psychiatrist who actually loves to counsel rather than just prescribe medications. I offer a rare blend of deep academic understanding and compassionate clinical expertise; more than anything, I am a clinician who truly wants to help you find your way through and past your worst hurts. I pride myself on being able to take complex, dense scientific information and impart it to my patients in simple, understandable terms. My goal is for you to feel empowered and knowledgeable about your own healing process rather than intimidated by it. I am driven by a broad curiosity—ranging from the genetics of schizophrenia to the dynamics of social and political reactions. This intellectual depth allows me to see the human mind in all its complexity, fueled by the firm belief that your pain is understandable and that, with the right approach, healing is possible. How I Weave Trauma Model Therapy Into My Practice As the creator of Trauma Model Therapy (TMT), my entire practice is built upon the foundation that trauma is a primary risk factor for a wide range of mental disorders. I don't just treat symptoms; I look for root causes. In our work together, I apply the TMT framework to: Focus on Integration: We move beyond simple symptom reduction toward psychological integration and the healing of relational wounds. Address the Structure of the Self: Because I understand how trauma fundamentally alters how a person sees themselves and the world, I can guide you toward a more stable, unified sense of identity. Identify Survival Logic: We look at comorbidity—the presence of multiple diagnoses—as a logical set of adaptations to an unsafe environment. In essence, I use the Trauma Model to ensure that your treatment is not a guessing game, but a scientifically grounded path toward recovery that respects the incredible ways your mind has worked to protect you. Browse the official global TMT directory for Certified Clinicians that treat complex PTSD, trauma, abuse, and all other mental health issues. WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO MEET Tabitha Jones, MSW, LCSW-S Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor (License #65333) Accepting Clients Yes Meeting Options Online Only Practices In Texas TMT Designation Trauma Model Therapy Level 1 Clinician Clinical Bio Hi! I'm Tabitha Jones. I am a clinical social worker supervisor licensed to practice in Texas. I graduated in 2017 with my Master's in Social from the University of California and received my clinical license in 2020. I have experience working in a wide variety of fields including employee assistance programs, inpatient substance abuse treatment centers, hospital settings, and individual counseling in a private practice setting. I provide individual therapy services for individuals ages 13+ via telehealth with Get Out of Your Head Therapy. I work with a wide variety of diagnoses but my primary focus is on individuals diagnosed with or suspected to have ADHD and/or Autism Spectrum disorders. I use an eclectic approach including Trauma Model Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, talk therapy, executive functioning skills building, and EMDR. What I Really Want You to Know I believe that everyone gets to decide what kind of life that they want to live. We cannot always decide the things that happen to us, but we can decide to heal. I strive to meet clients where they are at and to go at the pace they are ready for. We do not live in a vacuum, and so I approach therapy through a biopsychosocial-spiritual lens which means that your health, the way you view the world, your social circumstances, and spirituality (including not being spiritual) all make up who you are and must be taken into account during the therapy process. Everyone comes to therapy with their own unique circumstances, and I do my best to honor those experiences when coming up with a treatment plan. I believe that coming to therapy is one of the most important decisions in your life, and I am honored to be a part of that process. How I Weave Trauma Model Therapy Into My Practice Trauma Model Therapy provides a framework to guide my work with clients who have experienced trauma. It provides a narrative to understand why our brains do what they do when we experience trauma. My favorite tools I like to use are the locus of control shift, recognizing the problem is not the problem, and helping clients understand that their reactions are protections and they are not "bad". I find Trauma Model Therapy particularly helpful in EMDR when clients are feeling stuck or prepping for a target. • TMT is for Construction Workers | TMT

< Back Previous Next TMT IS FOR Construction Workers Build a sustainable life beyond the job site. Real strength isn't about burying your stress until the system breaks. By understanding the survival logic behind your body's stress responses, you can honor how you've coped, repair the impact of chronic pressure, and transition from simply surviving the shift to truly thriving at home and in your relationships. The Cost of the Build: Physical Risks and Chronic Stress in Construction Construction workers operate under some of the most demanding conditions in the labor force. Managing grueling physical exhaustion, high-risk work environments, unpredictable seasonal layoffs, and a rigid workplace culture that often demands silent endurance creates a unique ecosystem for trauma. When your daily safety depends on constant vigilance, your nervous system can easily get stuck in a survival state long after you clock out. Over time, hiding physical pain, managing high-stress deadlines, or witnessing severe on-the-job injuries can lead to complex trauma. In this industry, struggling with your mental health is not a sign of weakness—it is the predictable physiological impact of a high-stress, high-stakes environment. How Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) Relates to Construction Labor Trauma Model Therapy provides a straightforward, logical framework that respects the practical reality of construction professionals: Symptoms as Survival Strategies: TMT looks past behavioral labels. Hypervigilance, emotional numbing, or explosive anger aren't character flaws; they are functional adaptations built to keep you alert and tough in a hazardous, high-pressure environment. The Problem is Not the Problem (Addressing Addiction): The construction industry experiences disproportionately high rates of substance use, frequently starting as a way to manage chronic physical pain or to shut off an anxious mind at night. TMT approaches addiction not as a moral failing, but as a desperate, logical attempt to self-medicate and soothe an overloaded nervous system. The Locus of Control Shift: On the job, workers are often forced to adapt to unsafe deadlines, poor weather, or management decisions entirely outside of their power. TMT helps untangle the internal stress of feeling responsible for outcomes you cannot control, separating actual responsibility from employer pressures. Practical Grounding for Physical Minds: When stress or past trauma causes your mind to drift or dissociate on a job site, it becomes an immediate safety hazard. TMT prioritizes concrete, present-moment grounding techniques that reconnect you safely to your physical body, keeping you focused, sharp, and safe on the line. • PSYCHOLOGISTS | TMT

Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) is a sophisticated clinical framework for PSYCHOLOGISTS < Back to List of Professions Previous Profession Next Profession For Psychologists, whose training is deeply rooted in the scientific study of the mind and behavioral processes, Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) offers a robust, theoretically consistent framework. It bridges the gap between traditional clinical psychology, personality theory, and neurobiology, moving beyond symptom-level checklists to a unified theory of human adaptation. By utilizing TMT, Psychologists can leverage their expertise in assessment and research to provide a treatment that is as intellectually rigorous as it is clinically compassionate. A Unified Metapsychology for the Scientist-Practitioner Psychologists are trained to look for the underlying constructs behind behavior. TMT provides a comprehensive metapsychology that explains the common pathway for a vast range of seemingly unrelated psychiatric symptoms. The TMT Perspective: Rather than viewing comorbidities (e.g., Depression + OCD + Panic Disorder) as separate diagnoses, TMT views them as a single, unified survival system. It posits that the mind organizes itself around the trauma to maintain functioning. Clinical Value: This appeals to the psychologist’s need for theoretical parsimony. Instead of juggling multiple manualized treatments for five different diagnoses, the psychologist treats the Trauma System, which naturally resolves the secondary symptoms. Advanced Cognitive Restructuring: The Locus of Control Shift While psychologists are well-versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), TMT offers a more specialized form of cognitive restructuring specifically for the attachment-based distortions found in complex trauma. The Dynamic: In standard CBT, a distorted thought is often treated as a logical error. In TMT, the Locus of Control Shift is understood as a necess ary cognitive adaptation. The child must believe they are bad to maintain the hope that they can change the outcome. The TMT Intervention: The psychologist uses this to perform deep-level cognitive work. By dismantling the "Bad Me" identity, a psychologist doesn't just correct a thought; a psychologist helps to fundamentally restructure the patient's internal working model of the self. Bridging Assessment and Intervention Psychologists are the leaders of mental health assessment. TMT is uniquely designed to be data-driven and measurable, making it an ideal fit for those who value psychometric evidence. The Diagnostic Gap: Many psychologists struggle with patients who have sub-clinical scores on traditional PTSD tests but are clearly suffering. The Integration: TMT utilizes the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) and the Dissociative Disorders Interview Schedule (DDIS)—tools that Dr. Ross helped validate. This allows the psychologist to turn raw data into a clear, visual treatment plan, ensuring that Dissociative Identity Disorder or C-PTSD is caught early rather than missed for decades. The Grand Theory of Dissociation and Personality For psychologists interested in personality theory and structuralism, TMT provides a clear explanation for the fragmentation of the self. The Approach: TMT avoids the mystification of dissociation. It explains the split in the personality as a logical solution to the problem of attachment. You cannot be attached to a caregiver while simultaneously fleeing from them, so the mind creates a structural split. The Skill: The psychologist can use TMT to help the patient integrate, moving from a fragmented state to personality integration. This aligns with the psychological goal of self-actualization and ego strength. Playing Well with Psychological Modalities TMT acts as a foundational architecture that enhances the efficacy of the evidence-based practices psychologists already use: With Psychodynamic Therapy: TMT provides a more structured, trauma-focused lens for transference work, identifying it as a manifestation of the problem of attachment. With Schema Therapy: TMT deepens the understanding of early maladaptive schemas by rooting them specifically in the locus of control shift. With Neuropsychology: TMT aligns with the Polyvagal Theory and bottom-up processing by explaining the purpose behind the nervous system's choice to shut down or dissociate during threat. Why Psychologists Need TMT in Their Toolkit Psychologists are often the case leads in complex clinical settings. Utilizing TMT allows a psychologist to: Offer High-Resolution Care: Move beyond the DSM-5’s descriptive labels into a prescriptive, etiologically-based treatment. Ensure Clinical Accountability: Use TMT's stages of treatment (Stabilization -> Resolution -> Integration) to prevent treatment drift and ensure the patient is moving toward a defined goal. Synthesize Complexity: Handle complex trauma and Dissociative Disorders with a sense of confidence and clinical mastery. "Psychology without Trauma Model Therapy is often just the study of symptoms. Psychology with TMT is the study of how the human spirit survives the impossible." — The Clinical Ethos of TMT ENROLL IN TRAINING 1 Level 1 Level 1 training is focused on introducing you to the model, the 5 Principles of TMT, helping you learn how to conceptualize TMT, how to diagnose properly, and how to become competent in detecting and working with complex trauma & dissociation. • Internal Family Systems (IFS) | TMT

INTEGRATING MODELS Sometimes trauma survivors feel like they are hosting an endless, chaotic battle between different warring parts of themselves—some that lash out, some that shut down, and some that carry deep, hidden pain. By integrating the logical architecture of Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) with the compassionate, non-pathologizing framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS), the combination of models helps a person move beyond just fighting their inner critics or destructive impulses to actually unburdening the underlying trauma. The model combination provides the clinical map to understand the survival logic of your internal system and the Self-led connection needed to restore harmony, trust, and complete psychological integration. TMT Trauma Model Therapy IFS Internal Family Systems + The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, operates on the principle of the multiplicity of the mind. Rather than being a single, monolithic personality, the human psyche is viewed as an internal ecosystem composed of distinct sub-personalities, or "parts," alongside an undamaged, core Self. This internal system mimics the dynamics of an external family, where parts take on different roles, form alliances, and experience conflicts based on past experiences and trauma. THEORY OF THE MODEL The theory of the model for TMT is a trauma-driven, unified theory that views complex psychiatric symptoms as a system of adaptation to childhood trauma and attachment failures. It is a "metapsychology" that bridges biological, psychological, and social domains. In IFS, psychopathology is viewed not as chemical or character defects, but as a systemic imbalance and polarization within the internal family. When trauma or chronic stress occurs, the internal system fractures. The core Self gets obscured or "blended" with extreme parts, leaving the system to be run by polarized, reactive factions trying to maintain safety through rigid, dysfunctional behaviors. PSYCHOPATHOLOGY CONCEPTUALIZED AS In TMT, psychopathology is conceptualized as a logical and adaptive response to an abnormal environment. Initially, the "disorder" is not located within the individual's biology, but in the relationship between the developing child and a traumatic environment. The trauma can then cause biological dysregulation based on fight-flight-freeze physiology. Much of psychopathology is conceptualized as a dissociative compartmentalization of self-states – dissociation is the central organizing principle that results in a fragmented self organized into discrete self-states, alters or parts. A variety of terms can be used to describe parts. In IFS, symptoms are never viewed as pathological. Instead, symptoms—such as addiction, self-harm, anxiety, or rage—are conceptualized as the forced, extreme behaviors of protective parts. Every symptom is a well-intentioned, defensive strategy designed by a part of the mind to protect the individual from encountering deep, underlying emotional pain or terrifying vulnerabilities. PERSPECTIVE OF SYMPTOMS In TMT, symptoms (e.g., self-harm, eating disorders, addictions, voices) are viewed as survival strategies. They are "solutions" to the problem of unbearable pain when no other coping mechanisms are available. Symptoms are often due to the actions, emotions, or beliefs of dissociated parts, each of which may have its own history, feelings, beliefs and functions. Symptoms are seen as solutions, adaptations, and protective strategies that once helped the person but later create problems when the time, context, and circumstances have changed. IFS assumes: The mind is naturally multiple: Sub-personalities are a normal, healthy aspect of human nature, not a sign of fragmentation or illness. There are no bad parts: Every part has a positive intent for the survival and well-being of the individual, even if its methods are destructive. The Self exists in everyone: Everyone possesses a core Self that cannot be damaged by trauma, characterized by innate wisdom, compassion, and healing capacity. Parts change roles when safe: Parts are forced into extreme roles by external circumstances; once the system feels safe, parts naturally desire to return to their preferred, healthy states. ASSUMPTIONS TMT assumptions are that most psychopathology is trauma-based. This can involve both Big T and little t trauma. The Locus of Control Shift is a universal cognitive adaptation to abuse. The Problem of Attachment to the Perpetrator is a core clinical conflict. A genuine commitment to recovery is essential. “The problem is not the problem” - symptoms have a function and purpose as survival strategies and defenses. In IFS, change occurs through differentiation (unblending) and unburdening. Healing happens when a client assists an extreme part in unblending from the core Self, allowing the client to access their inherent compassion and curiosity. The mechanism relies on the Self witnessing the part's historic pain and safely releasing the toxic beliefs, emotions, or physical energies (the "burdens") the part has carried since the trauma occurred. MECHANISMS OF CHANGE The TMT mechanism of change involves cognitive restructuring of trauma-based beliefs (dismantling the "Bad Me" identity) combined with the development of healthier self-regulation skills. Change is driven by relational engagement with a client’s system of parts: the therapist plays an active role in this process, emphasizing psychoeducation, grounding, and commitment to recovery as elements of healing. The system of parts participates in treatment and change through recognition, communication, cooperation, and integration of parts. IFS measures clinical progress through Self-Leadership and internal harmony, specifically looking for: The 8 Cs of Self: Increased presence of Calmness, Curiosity, Clarity, Compassion, Confidence, Creativity, Courage, and Connectedness in the client's daily life. De-escalation: A noticeable reduction in the frequency, intensity, and rigidity of protective symptoms (e.g., fewer panic attacks, addictive urges, or depressive crashes). Systemic Collaboration: The client's internal parts no longer fight for control but instead communicate, collaborate, and trust the leadership of the Self. HOW IT MEASURES CHANGE TMT measures change in a few ways. Standardized psychometric testing (e.g., DES, DDIS) are utilized. Clinical indicators such as a reduction in self-blame and dissociative "lost time," and an increase in healthy self-regulation. Diagnosis, treatment planning, and interventions flow from mapping and understanding the internal dissociative structure. The clinical process in IFS follows a structured path of tracking internal parts, often referred to as the 6 Fs: Find: Locate the part in, or around, the physical body. Focus: Direct internal attention entirely onto that specific part. Flesh out: Discern the part's characteristics (imagery, sensations, age, or thoughts). Feel toward: Assess how the client feels toward the part (aiming for curiosity or compassion). Befriend: Get to know the part's positive intent and the fears it carries. Fear: Uncover what the part is terrified would happen if it stopped doing its protective job, which eventually paves the way for the healing and unburdening of the wounded parts it protects. HOW IT WORKS TMT works in simple yet powerful ways. TMT is based on 5 core principles and the three phases of any trauma treatment model. 1. Education and Stabilization: building safety, a map of the system, and clarifying the problems to be addressed in therapy. 2. Trauma Processing: including ambivalent attachment patterns and negative self-beliefs. 3. Resolution and Integration: Consolidating the fragmented self. IFS views dissociation as a highly organized, brilliant survival mechanism executed by extreme protective parts (often referred to as "Firefighters" or highly vigilant "Managers"). When the system is overwhelmed by a trauma trigger, these parts deliberately pull the plug on consciousness, numb the physical body, or distract the mind to prevent the system from a total psychological crash. It is respected as an active, intentional boundary rather than treated as a processing failure. PERSPECTIVE ON DISSOCIATION The TMT perspective of dissociation is that dissociation is a structural defense used to wall off unbearable affect and memories. Dissociation is understood and treated as a primary focus of therapy. Integration in IFS does not mean blending all parts together into a single, uniform personality or erasing individual parts of the self. Instead, integration is defined as harmonious internal leadership. It is a state where the individual parts retain their unique identities, memories, and talents, but step out of their extreme survival roles to live in an interconnected, collaborative relationship guided by the core Self. HOW IT VIEWS INTEGRATION In TMT, Integration is the blending of fragmented parts of the self. It involves the gradual removal of dissociative barriers so that the Self can act as a unified, conscious identity. Integration = increased cooperation followed by blending and sometimes full fusion of parts when and if desired. Not all individuals want full integration. For the Clinician: Blending TMT with IFS allows clinicians to combine a highly systematic blueprint of trauma architecture with a compassionate, non-pathologizing framework for unburdening protective and wounded parts. For the Client or Patient: Experiencing the combined approach of TMT and IFS means your most painful and destructive impulses are treated not as defective symptoms, but as well-intentioned, protective parts of your internal system that can safely step down under the leadership of your true Self. • TMT is for Call Center Workers | TMT

< Back Previous Next TMT IS FOR Call Center Workers Reclaim your voice beyond the queue. True resilience isn't about absorbing endless hostility until your mental health collapses. By understanding the neurobiological logic of your body's defense systems, you can honor the survival strategies that protect you on the phone lines, safely disconnect from the headset at the end of the day, and transition from enduring your life to truly thriving in your life. The Hardship of the Headset: Chronic Hostility and Relational Strain in Call Centers Call center agents, customer service representatives, and technical support specialists operate in an ecosystem defined by rapid-fire pacing, high-volume metrics, and continuous interpersonal conflict. Sitting on the other end of the line means confronting severe customer hostility, systemic corporate constraints, and intense, metered surveillance for hours at a time. When your daily routine involves absorbing verbal abuse and de-escalating intense crises every few minutes without any time to process between queues, your autonomic nervous system can become stuck in a permanent state of threat appraisal. In this industry, experiencing severe anxiety, emotional numbing, or a profound sense of dread when the phone rings is not a sign of personal weakness—it is a predictable physiological adaptation to a high-stress, low-control environment. How Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) Relates to Call Center Professionals Trauma Model Therapy delivers a clear, objective framework that matches the unique psychological and operational stressors of phone-based labor: Symptoms as Invisible Defense Adaptations: TMT rejects the pathologizing of your stress responses. The ability to completely dissociate from your body while on a call, freeze up under pressure, or experience intense post-shift irritability are not signs of a broken brain; they are functional adaptations built to help you survive a barrage of verbal hostility. The Problem is Not the Problem (Navigating Escapism): High turnover and stress in call centers frequently correlate with a reliance on caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, or compulsive scrolling to make it through the shift. TMT views these behaviors not as character flaws, but as logical, desperate attempts to self-medicate and force a highly activated nervous system to down-regulate. The Locus of Control Shift & Rigid Metrics: Call center workers are trapped in a profound cognitive trap: you are held personally accountable for resolving customer satisfaction, yet given absolutely zero control over corporate policies, dysfunctional systems, or script constraints. TMT untangles this burden, helping you separate your true responsibilities from the toxic shame of systemic limitations. Somatic Grounding Between Calls: Shutting down at your desk can devastate your performance metrics and leave you feeling trapped in your own body. TMT utilizes rapid, discreet, present-moment grounding techniques that you can practice right at your workstation, allowing you to discharge stress and anchor your nervous system between queues.
