Clinical Bio

Howdy! I'm Jessica (she/her/hers). I obtained my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2017 from Sam Houston State University. While in my last semester, I also completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and integrate embodiment, the connection to self and emotions, as well as being more present into therapy. I went on to get training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing soon after graduating. A few years later, I returned to Sam Houston State University to pursue a doctoral degree in Counselor Education, which I earned in 2022. As a part of an independent study course, I also became certified in Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) in 2022. I have previous clinical experience in various settings including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, local mental health authority, rape crisis center, and domestic violence shelter.

What I Really Want You to Know

I provide virtual individual counseling for adult clients in Texas who have trauma and/or Dissociative Disorders, including Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). I also see those who are trying to figure out if what happened to them was "bad enough to call trauma." What you call it doesn't matter to me, I will sift through the hurt with you. My practice is dedicated to counseling adults who have experienced neglect and sexual, physical, or emotional abuse in childhood and/or adulthood. Most of my clients are working to manage attachment issues, personality and self-identity challenges, and symptoms of PTSD, Complex PTSD, or DID. I believe that you are deserving of healing, simply because you exist. It is my goal to help you create a life you deem worth living. I am an accepting and affirming counselor who proudly welcomes all clients just as they are to my practice.

How I Weave Trauma Model Therapy Into My Practice

Much of Trauma Model Therapy that I bring into the therapy space includes the attachment, cognitive, and behavioral theoretical approaches. I am a very relationally grounded counselor, and I believe that this is how I can help you best. I believe that humans are built for healing and repair and that through a therapeutic relationship, together, we heal.

I integrate the principles of TMT into my practice from a very validating, supportive, and educational approach. I believe information helps a lot, but that we also need skills and emotional processing to pull everything together. This is why I like that TMT not just encourages me, but requires me, to bring in other modalities! I like to tailor skill building with trauma processing interventions to best help you meet the goals you have.

A TMT guidepost is to begin therapy "with the end in mind" and my goal as your counselor is to be what you need, for the time that you need me. Then, when you don't need me anymore, or need me less, that you feel confident to continue your journey and build your life upon all the work that you've done. I can't wait to see you get there and I'm already proud of your efforts to seek out trauma counseling.
