Learn more about what it means to be a

Trauma Model Therapy Level 2 Clinician

What this means for the client or patient

For a person seeking care, a TMT Level 2 Clinician offers deep clinical movement and advanced integration. A Trauma Model Therapy (TMT) Level 2 Clinician has progressed beyond foundational trauma concepts to master the delicate art of symptom translation, emotional processing, and multi-modality integration. They know how to take the core principles of survival and apply them directly to deep behavioral change, affect regulation, and specialized therapeutic models like EMDR, DBT, and CPT.

When you see a clinician with this training, you are working with someone who:

  • Deepens Your Healing: They don't just help you manage your history; they work with you to safely unpack, understand, and resolve the root causes of your chronic psychological pain.

  • Transforms Intolerable Feelings: They are expertly trained in advanced feeling work, helping you safely navigate intense emotional waves, self-injury impulses, and deep-seated internal resistance without leaving you feeling overwhelmed or destabilized.

  • Blends Proven Modalities: They know how to inject the powerful survival logic of TMT directly into other trusted and proven treatments you may already be utilizing, such as EMDR, DBT, or Cognitive Processing Therapy.

  • Maintains Clear Therapeutic Neutrality: They provide an exceptionally steady, non-judgmental container that preserves your ultimate autonomy while intentionally guiding you through the structured stages of long-term recovery.

Terms clinicians are permitted to use once requirements have been met:

Understanding TMT Level 2 Training:
A Standard of Clinical Excellence

When a person attains TMT Level 2 Clinician status, it signifies they have transitioned from understanding the theoretical architecture of trauma into the mastery of advanced clinical execution and modality integration. This designation ensures that the provider can maintain deep therapeutic safety while actively transforming chronic, self-sabotaging symptoms and seamlessly weaving TMT into specialized psychotherapies.

PART 1

The Knowledge Base:
The Deepened Understanding of
Complex Trauma Treatment

The advanced journey deepens through an intensive curriculum paired with extended, real-world clinical case modeling. A clinician who has completed TMT Level 2 Training has mastered the following clinical areas

  • The Architecture of Recovery: Learning to execute the specific Stages of Trauma Recovery, starting treatment by purposefully beginning with the end in mind, and mastering the discipline of Therapeutic Neutrality and the clinical role of medication.

  • Symptom Translation & De-escalation: Decoding the hidden survival function of negative symptoms, utilizing the what-if cascade, and implementing advanced clinical strategies to understand and transform self-injury.

  • Affect Mastery & Defenses: Navigating the healing power of feeling by executing specific strategies to assist with feeling work, neutralizing clinical resistance, normalizing and working through defenses, and maintaining a strict focus on adaptation in the present.

  • Cross-Model Integration: Seamlessly embedding the logical framework of TMT into other major clinical modalities to accelerate healing:

    • EMDR Integration: How to incorporate TMT into the 8 phases of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

    • DBT Integration: How to incorporate TMT into Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and structures.

    • CPT Integration: How to incorporate TMT into Cognitive Processing Therapy frameworks.

  • Advanced Clinical Modeling: Engaging with updated, longer clinical role plays featuring Dr. Colin A. Ross to observe, unpack, and master real-time interactions with complex presenting issues.

PART 2

Clinical Integration Through Standardized Consultation

Advanced knowledge requires precise clinical execution. To upgrade to TMT Level 2 Clinician status, practitioners must transition from learning the advanced material to actively demonstrating their clinical integration within focused consultation parameters.

Group Consultation: Case Conceptualization Strategy

Hours Required: 2

Cost: $100

In these structured sessions, clinicians work in small cohorts (2–4 peers) to:

  • Apply the TMT Mindset and TMT General Treatment Techniques to active, real-world trauma cases.

  • Refine their clinical lens by analyzing how the model changes their view of addressing and treating symptoms.

  • Receive expert input to ensure the highest level of support for their clients.

Individual Consultation: Advanced Competency Mastery

Hours Required: 1

Cost: $100

To earn their TMT Level 2 Clinician designation, a consultee must personally demonstrate their clinical integration to a TMT consultant by proving they can confidently articulate and apply advanced symptom transformation techniques which include:

  • Embodying Therapeutic Neutrality: Define and demonstrate the clinical purpose of maintaining a steady, objective stance that protects patient autonomy and prevents relational re-enactments.

  • Mapping the Recovery Journey: Provide a clear, cohesive overview of the structured stages of trauma recovery to guide long-term treatment planning and pacing.

  • Anchoring the Destination: Explain the strategic clinical necessity of beginning with the end in mind, ensuring that every session moves intentionally toward ultimate resolution rather than just temporary symptom management.

  • Translating and Transforming Symptoms: Provide a real-world clinical example of how to decode and explain the hidden survival function of a negative symptom to a patient while successfully treating their most maladaptive behaviors.

TMT Level 2 Individual Consultation questions that each TMT Consultee must answer:

  • Define and explain the purpose of Therapeutic Neutrality.

  • Give a brief overview of the stages of recovery, and what occurs in each stage.

  • Why do we begin with the end in mind?

  • Based on everything you learned in Level 2, give an example of how you would explain the function of a negative symptom to someone.

  • Based on everything you learned in Level 2, give an example of how you would use a TMT General Technique to treat a maladaptive symptom.

Directory Upgrade &
Exclusive Access to
Free Small Groups

Once a clinician has successfully achieved TMT Level 2 Clinician status by navigating the training, the advanced role-plays, and the rigorous consultation process, they are eligible to upgrade their professional tier on the global TMT Provider Directory.
