Learn more about what it means to be a

Trauma Model Therapy Consultant-in-Training (TMT-CIT)

What This Means for the Client or Patient

For a person seeking care, a TMT Clinician that has advanced to the level of a Trauma Model Therapy Consultant in-Training (TMT-CIT), you are placing your care in the hands of an elite, rigorously vetted clinical leader. The journey to becoming a TMT CIT is exhaustive, ensuring that your clinician is not merely practicing the model, but is recognized as a master of it.

When you see a TMT Clinician with this advanced designation, you are working with someone who:

  • Meets all the Standards of a TMT Certified Clinician: They have achieved mastery in the clinical management of severe Dissociative Disorders and complex internal systems. This designation ensures that the provider can confidently step into advanced system diplomacy, establish safe internal communication networks, and navigate even the most severe presentations of structural dissociation.

  • Embodies the TMT Mindset: They view your most distressing symptoms not as pathology or a broken brain, but as brilliant, logical survival strategies built to endure absolute helplessness and severe relational trauma.

  • Decodes Deep Self-Blame: They are expertly trained to target and resolve the "locus of control" error, gently helping you untangle and heal the chronic toxic shame, self-sabotage, and internalized guilt left behind by past abuse.

  • Backed by a Global Mastermind: Because TMT Consultants operate within a highly connected, collaborative, rockstar team rather than a clinical silo, your treatment benefits from a collective network of top trauma specialists who continuously refine their skills.

  • Champions Cultural and Financial Equity: They are deeply committed to breaking down barriers to care, actively giving back to the profession by providing pro bono services and ensuring high-level trauma therapy remains accessible across diverse cultures and all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Terms clinicians are permitted to use once requirements have been met:

Understanding TMT-CIT Process:
It's Not Like Other Consultant Designations

Unlike typical consultant tracks that focus strictly on administrative oversight, the TMT-CIT pathway integrates you into a highly collaborative, tight-knit team of clinical leaders who genuinely care about keeping Dr. Ross’s model intact. Becoming a TMT-CIT means stepping up as a true steward of the mindset—which includes a real, active commitment to breaking down barriers through: annual pro bono work; standardized, equitable consultation rates so that effective trauma care is never just a privilege for the few; and contributing your talents and intellect to the greater TMT Community.

All of the Details Related
to the TMT CIT Process

As we've already mentioned, the TMT-CIT process is very different from other Consultant tracks found in other models and organizations. We try to be as transparent in our processes so that you can determine if this kind of leadership is a good fit for you.

TMT CIT Selection Process:

  • All TMT CIT applications are reviewed by the current TMT Consultants (CITs, Consultants, and Mentors), the TMT Director of Education and Dr. Ross

  • TMT sets a percentage max of TMT Consultants so that the Consultant designation doesn’t get saturated. The expected cap is 5-10% of the overall average enrollment of people in all three levels, but that cap is subject to change

  • For May 2026- May 2027:

    • TMT will accept a max of 15 TMT CITs. Only 5 TMT CITs will be accepted in each cohort.  The start dates of each cohort have not yet been set. If you are interested in this process, please contact us so that we can inform you when the TMT CIT application opens

    • Dates of cohorts have not yet finalized

TMT CIT Consultation Cost:

  • $1,000 USD

    • 9 individual hours with your TMT Consultant Mentor

      • You will have an option to rank your top 3 Consultant Mentor choices. We will do our best to match you with your preferred Consultant Mentor, based on availability

    • 1 final evaluation hour with a TMT Consultant that isn’t your mentor

  • Payment options

    • You have the option to prepay the full cost

      • Payment plans are available if you opt to prepay the full cost

    • You also have the option to pace the TMT CIT process, allowing you to spread out the financial investment over time

The TMT CIT Process:

Here is an overview of what the TMT CIT structure will look like so that you can be fully informed of what will be asked of TMT CITs. Please keep in mind that things can shift as we continue to perfect the process. This structure is what we are committing to for the next year (May 2026-May 2027).

  • Requirement of TMT CIT Process

    • Engage in the TMT CIT onboarding and orientation - 3 hours (included in the overall cost)

    • Conduct 2 individual consultation sessions per level - 6 hours to total

      • 1 individual consultation session is observed by your Consultant Mentor (You will be required to have your mentor observe one individual session and one group session. Those observations must be from different training levels)

        • Fee split with TMT Consultant Mentor: 50-50

    • Conduct 2 group consultation sessions per level - 12 hours total

      • 1 group consultation session is observed by your Consultant Mentor (You will be required to have your mentor observe one individual session and one group session. Those observations must be from different training levels)

        • Fee split with TMT Consultant Mentor: Fee split 50-50

    • Complete 9 hours of consultation with a TMT Consultant Mentor

      • 2 hours of consultation must occur before you conduct any TMT Consultation

      • Then, 2 hours of consultation must occur between each level of consultation you provide

        • It’s recommended that you engage in a consultation before and after offering consultation for each level

    • Complete 1 hour of your final TMT CIT evaluation with a TMT Consultant who is not your TMT Consultant Mentor

    • Commit to conduct 1 pro bono group approved by the TMT program

    • Commit to attend the TMT Consultant or TMT CIT planning retreat annually

    • Consent to your Consultant Mentor accessing and reviewing the surveys for the consultation sessions you conduct so that they can provide you with specific and targeted feedback on strengths and growth areas.

  • How You Are Paid as a TMT CIT

    • Consultation Fees Are Standardized

      • For TMT tracking purposes, all TMT CITs and TMT Consultants agree to utilize Get Into Your Head Training for scheduling and collecting payment for all TMT Consultations

        • Consultants earn 80% of fees collected for their services.

      • TMT Consultation fees are the same regardless of whether or not a person is a TMT CIT, a TMT Consultant, or a TMT Consultant Mentor

      • All Consultation fees will be evaluated annually

      • All TMT Consultants or TMT CITs will charge no more than the maximum price set annually

      • TMT Consultants and TMT CITs reserve the right to charge less than the TMT standardized Consultation fee based on need or currency, but must inform Get Into Your Head Training of any special arrangements

  15. Of the 6 TMT Consultants, list your top 3 preferred Consultant Mentors for the 9 hours of CIT Consultation.

  16. TMT Consultants are primary advocates and ambassadors for the framework.
